New LSU coach caught off guard by recruit’s disenchantment

ALEXANDRIA, La. — LSU basketball coach Trent Johnson said he was caught off guard when he learned prized recruit J’Mison Morgan wanted to be released from his commitment to the Tigers so he could instead attempt to play for UCLA.
Morgan was recruited by former LSU coach John Brady and assistant Butch Pierre, who later served as interim coach late last season before Johnson was given the job full-time. Full story »

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Tubby Smith was back in Rupp Arena, once again wearing blue. But this time, the outfit was a gown and the title was doctor, not coach.

Smith returned for the first time Sunday to the floor where he spent a decade leading the Wildcat basketball program. He was on hand to get an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at UK's commencement.

NCAA: Mallett must sit out year before playing for Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The NCAA says transfer quarterback Ryan Mallett must sit out a year before playing for the Razorbacks.
Arkansas had asked the NCAA to waive the requirement that Mallett sit out a year. Mallett transferred from Michigan after retiring coach Lloyd Carr was replaced by Rich Rodriguez.

LSU QB Perrilloux dismissed

BATON ROUGE, La. - LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who had legal and disciplinary problems throughout his college career, was kicked off the team.

Coach Les Miles said Perrilloux "didn't fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete." Perrilloux was a backup to Matt Flynn for the Tigers, the defending national champions.
