Tennessee point guard Bobby Maze was named to the 12-man SEC Community Service team for the 2009-10 men's basketball season on Monday.

A senior from Suitland, Md., Maze has been an intricate part of Tennessee's community efforts and has volunteered for numerous events during his two years in Knoxville.

In 2008-09, Maze assisted with the Hoops for Hope basketball tournament for children with Down Syndrome. He also visited with patients at East Tennessee Children's Hospital and helped to raise the walls on a new home for a woman in need as part of a Habitat For Humanity project.

Maze was the featured speaker during the 2009 April Play Day event for the Boys & Girls Club at Apostolic Christian, as he helped to mentor at-risk youth.

This season, Maze again took part in the Hoops for Hope tournament and visited with patients at ETCH and UT Medical Center in conjunction with the basketball program's OUTLIVE initiative. He also assisted with Knoxville's Race For The Cure.

Maze averages 9.5 points and 3.2 assists per game for the Vols. He leads the team in free-throw shooting (.824) and ranks second in the SEC with a 2.3 assist/turnover ratio.

Six On All-SEC Team: Six members of the Tennessee women's track & field team have been named to the All-SEC team, and two Lady Vols have been named to the All-Freshman team, the league announced Monday.

First-team All-SEC consists of the first-place finishers from the recent SEC Indoor Championships, while the second team consists of the runners-up. The All-Freshman team includes the top-finishing freshmen in each event.

First-team members for Tennessee are seniors Jackie Areson (5,000 meters) and Phoebe Wright (800), and the distance medley relay team of Wright, junior Kim White, sophomore Chanelle Price and Areson. The DMR team set a meet record in the process.

Second-team honorees include sophomore Brittany Sheffey and junior Annie Alexander. Sheffey finished second in both the mile and 3,000 meters, while Alexander was the runner-up in the shot put.

Lady Vols earning All-Freshman status were Jessie Harrison and Kia Jackson. Harrison was sixth in the weight throw, while Jackson was fifth in the long jump.

No members of the UT men's team received honors.

Renfroe SEC's Top Freshman: For the third consecutive week a member of the No. 20 Tennessee softball team has been honored by the SEC, as pitcher Ivy Renfroe has been named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Renfroe, from Humboldt, Tenn., helped the Lady Vols (13-4) to a 5-0 record and the Tennessee Classic title, posting a 0.81 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings over four appearances.

Renfroe limited No. 13 Texas to two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings in a 3-2 victory. Texas entered the game 16-2 with more than 30 home runs.

The Lady Vols open SEC play today with a three-game series at Mississippi State (13-6). Today's doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. EST.

Pappas Second: Two-time NCAA decathlon champion Jake Arnold beat out former Tennessee star Tom Pappas on Sunday to win the USA Indoor Combined Events Championships in Bloomington, Ind.

Arnold, who needed to defeat Pappas, the 2003 World decathlon champion and a three-time Olympian, by 4.50 seconds in the final event (1,000 meters) to win the overall title, crossed the finish line first in 2:49.62 (770 points), with Pappas finishing fifth in 2:55.72 (707 points).

Arnold finished with 5,861 points. Pappas, a two-time winner of this event (2000, '02), was second with 5,845.

UT Trio Represents U.S.: A trio of former Tennessee Vols will represent the United States at the upcoming IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar. Tim Mack (pole vault), Sarah Bowman (1,500meters) and DeeDee Trotter (400) will compete in the event, which runs Friday through Sunday.
