The Tennessee swimming and diving team gave coach John Trembley a victory to celebrate on his birthday Friday, winning at Louisville 168-132.
The Vols set four pool records at the Ralph Wright Natatorium en route to the victory.
"This was a great competition for a young team,'' Trembley said. "We arrived at Louisville with one senior, but we went in there and swam lights out."
Sophomore All-American Ricky Henahan, who swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay to open the meet, had one of the most impressive individual swims, setting a pool record in the 100 backstroke (48.06 seconds). Henahan now leads both the SEC and the NCAA in the event.
"I just really wanted to win it for our team,'' Henahan said. "I knew the guys needed me to step up and it was great to help out our team like that."
SEC swimmer of the week Brad Craig won the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.94. The time was the fastest in the SEC as well as a pool record.
The third pool record was All-American Michael DeRocco, who followed up his victory in the 50 free by winning the 100 butterfly in 48.96.
The fourth record was set by Tennessee's 400 freestyle relay of DeRocco, Henahan, Ryan Harrison and Ed Walsh, which swam a 3:01.04.
In diving, sophomore Ryan Helms swept both events. He scored a season-high 328.20 in winning the one meter and had a score of 371.02 on the three meter.
Tennessee's home opener is next Friday against Kentucky.
Baseball: Due to a number of minor injuries, Tennessee's final three Orange and White World Series games will be played under a modified scoring system designed to determine the overall productivity of each player both offensively and defensively, as well as on the pitching mound.
For example, a hit, stolen base or hustle play will be worth one point, while an RBI or a run scored will net two. On the other end of the spectrum, a strikeout, missed sign or failed sacrifice bunt will cause a point to be taken away.
The final score will be determined 75 percent by the production of the position players with the other 25 percent coming from the pitching staff.
Game five is scheduled for noon today. The Orange team holds a 3-0 series lead. There is no admission fee.
