Bob Dobelstein, an All-America guard for Tennessee in 1944, died Friday at his home in Lake City, Fla.
He died at age 87 after a brief illness.
Mr. Dobelstein grew up in Bridgeport, Conn. In 1942 he accepted a scholarship to UT offered by then-coach General Robert Neyland. He played in the 1943 Sugar Bowl and the 1945 Rose Bowl. He was a captain on the 1944 team. He played two years for the New York Giants and a year with the Los Angeles Dons of the AAC.
Mr. Dobelstein and his wife, Betty, moved to Lake City, Fla., in 1957 and opened several service stations. He also owned the town’s first AM radio station and introduced cable television to the area.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lake City, Fla.
