Tennessee’s Blake Forsythe had an RBI single Tuesday as Team USA beat Japan 8-4 in Sendai, Japan, the third of five baseball games in the 37th annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championships.
Forsythe, a catcher from Memphis, was 2-of-4 and scored twice as Team USA took a 2-1 lead in the series.
Knoxville’s Bryce Brentz was 1-of-5 in the win.
The USA won the first game 3-0, but Japan took the second game 7-5.
Brentz is hitting .447 since being named to the team. Forsythe is hitting .281.

Cody Hawn, UT’s leading hitter last season, was batting .375 through Sunday’s games for the Hyannis Mets.
Bowman Lowers Mark: Sarah Bowman lowered her year-old Lady Vols record in the 1,500 meters Monday in Greece.
Bowman, who completed her eligibility last month, was timed in 4:05.67 to finish ninth in the IAAF World Athletics Tour event in Athens. Her previous mark was 4:07.50.
Bowman was also named NCAA Division I Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year.
The honor comes from the nation’s track and cross-country coaches association.
Holmes Honor: UT’s David Holmes, from West High School, was one of eight SEC golfers named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
