University of Tennessee outfielder Kentrail Davis signed with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday for more than $2 million as he faced a midnight deadline.
Davis, a supplemental first-round draft pick in June who had two years of eligibility remaining with the Vols, received a reported $1.2 million bonus.
According to published reports, Davis received nearly $100,000 more than Milwaukee’s first-round pick, right-hander Eric Arnett, who was selected 26th overall, and 42 percent over Major League Baseball’s recommended bonus of $844,200 for the 39th pick.
Davis’ agent is Scott Boras.
“Kentrail had options,” Milwaukee's director of amateur scouting Bruce Seid told MLB.com. “He was sophomore-eligible in the SEC, and we knew it would take first-round money.”
Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox had not signed supplemental third-round draft pick Bryan Morgado of UT as the deadline loomed.
Morgado could return to UT for his junior season. He improved his stock by pitching exceptionally well in the Cape Cod League.
