Running back from Alaska to walk on
Kodiak (Alaska) High School’s Michael Odell will walk on at UT this summer.
Odell is Kodiak’s all time leading rusher, gaining more than 1,850 yards. Last season, he ran for 869 yards and six touchdowns, and averaged 6.4 yards per carry.
Odell decided against a scholarship offer from Chadron State in Nebraska to walk-on at UT.
“This has been a dream for a long time,” Odell told the Kodiak Daily Mirror, adding that he’s been a longtime UT fan.
Odell first caught UT’s eye when he attended a football camp in 2006.
Defensive tackle Shane Bonham from Fairbanks was the last UT player to hail from Alaska. He lettered in 1992-93.
